6 Tips for Cleaning and Organizing Your Home this Spring
There’s nothing like the feeling of a good spring clean. Even if you don’t like the cleaning part, you will certainly enjoy the fruits of your labor when your home is sparkling clean and organized.
In this article I’m going to cover some of the overlooked things that people forget to do in their spring cleaning.
Flip and Rotate Your Mattress
Many people don’t realize that you should flip your mattress twice a year. This will extend the life of your mattress and it’s also good for your spine. After sleeping on one side of a mattress for an extended period of time, it will start to cave in slightly which is terrible for your back, especially if you prefer to sleep on your stomach.
Before flipping the mattress over, sprinkle some baking soda over the entire surface and then vacuum. Repeat this process for the other side of the mattress that’s exposed after you flip it over.
Wash or Replace Pillows
Although you might clean your pillow cases regularly, bacteria can build up on the actual pillow. You could always buy new pillows, or just throw them in the washer with some detergent.
Clean and Organize Your Refrigerator and Pantry
Go through your fridge and pantry and declutter shelf by shelf. Throw away expired items. Have items you haven’t used in awhile that are not expired? Donate these to your local food bank.
Wipe down the shelves of your fridge and pantry and don’t forget to clean under the fridge. You will be surprised at how many spills and food go unnoticed until you pull the fridge away from the wall.
Clean Crown Molding and Baseboards
This may seem like a lot of work, but simply taking a dryer sheet and running it along your molding will pick up any dust that’s accumulated. But if there is any staining, that will require a bit more elbow grease and scrubbing with soap and water.
Pressure Wash Outdoor Patios
First, sweep dust, leaves and other debris from your patio’s surface. If you have a pressure washer, spray the surface to remove built up grime. Be sure to read the safety manual of your pressure washer as this isn’t exactly like using a garden hose. You can always hire a pressure washing company to do the work for you instead.
Clean and Organize Drawers and Cabinets
Go through each cabinet and drawer in your home one at a time and wipe them clean. Declutter all of the “stuff” and donate things that you aren’t using. This may take a couple of days, depending on how many drawers and cabinets you need to go through.
